An Empirical Study on Logistics Outsourcing and the Performance of Korean Companies

Companies tend to prefer short and small runs in production while consumers demand a prompt, elastic and individual provision of customer service. Global companies in particular, are more likely to outsource their logistics functions to professional logistics firms by deputing logistics to another firm in order to concentrate their resources on their core business. In this way, they can enhance operational efficiency in logistics and customer service which will gradually contribute to the competitiveness of the entire corporation. The purpose of this study is to analyze performance according to determinants of the logistics outsourcing of Korean Companies. The results of hypotheses testing from the analysis of SEMs are as follows; Firstly, the corporation strategic factors and environmental factors appeared to have a positive influence on the determinants. Secondly, the corporation characteristic factors appeared to have a positive influence only on the adequacy among the determinants. Thirdly, only the controllability among the determinants appeared to have a positive influence on performance.
