학생들이 인식하는 좋은 강의의 특성 연구

The characteristics of good teaching based on the students' awareness : The comparative analysis of actual learning experiences between A university in Korea and oversea universities

대학에서 이루어지는 좋은 강의의 특성을 파악하기 위해 그간 많은 연구가 진행된 바 있다. 특히 현재 대학 강의평가의 주체인 학생들의 입장에서 어떤 강의를 좋은 강의로 생각하는 지에 대한 연구는, 실제로 수업개선에 기여하게 된다는 점에서 매우 유용한 정보로 평가되고 있다. 그러나 그간의 연구들은 국내 대학에서의 수업 경험을 토대로 이루어진 것이어서, 우리 대학 수업에서 미진한 부분이 무엇인지 세부적인 개선 방안을 제시하는 데는 어려움이 있었다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 국내와 해외 대학에서 함께 수강 한 학생을 대상으로 수강 경험에 대한 자료를 통해 각각의 좋은 강의의 특성을 분석, 비교하였다. 그 결과 국내 및 국외 강의를 함께 수강한 학생들이 지적한 좋은 강의의 공통적 요소는 수업 내용, 교수의 수업 운영 기술, 과제와 평가, 학생 참여적 수업 유도, 학생 간의 교류 촉진이라 답하였다. 그러나 이 공통적 요소들의 세부 내용에는 상당한 차이를 보였다. 즉, 국내 대학 수강에서는 수업 내용의 요소로서‘교수의 전문성’과‘교수의 성실과 열의’를 꼽았는데 비해 해외 대학 수강에서는‘학제 간 연구를 시도하는 강의’와‘연구에 필요한 실질적 내용 제공’을 좋은 점으로 꼽았다. 교수와 학생의 상호작용 측면에서는 국내 대학‘질문을 통한 지적 자극’을 꼽은데 비해 해외 대학은‘교수-학생의 수평적이고 친숙한 관계’와‘학생에 대한 높은 관심과 이해’를 꼽았다. 기타사항으로는 해외 대학 수강 학생들은‘수업외의 특강이 있다는 점’과‘많은 정보가 담긴 수강편람’이 매우 좋은 강의요소라고 꼽았다. 특히 해외 대학 수강의 경우 수업외적인 요소로‘Tutorial System을 통해 학생에 대한 관리 및 학생지도를 한다’ 와 ‘Peer-Advisor를 통해 학교생활 적응과 학습에 도움을 준다’를 매우 좋은 수업지원제도로 평가하였다.

This study was performed to find out the characteristics of good teaching practice in universities. After analyzing the learning experiences of 30 undergraduate students in S university in Korea, and 20 undergraduate students from overseas universities as well, we compared the characteristic elements for good teaching. The results commonly suggested that the content of lectures, teaching skill of faculties, motivation of active learning and active communication between faculty and students were important elements for good teaching. It was noted that the undergraduate students in S university included professionalism of contents knowledge, enthusiasm and sincerity of the faculty giving the lecture, whereas the undergraduate students from overseas universities proposed the addition of interdisciplinary subjects, content knowledge, intimate rapport with students and faculty, and care and understanding for students. Particularly, the undergraduate students from oversea universities considered the external factors, such as student learning support systems of tutorial and peer-advising were essential requisites for good teaching.
