The purpose of this study was to examine young children's self-control and separation anxiety by mother's attachment types. Subjects of this study were 290 mothers of children aged 3, 4 and 5 drawn from the kindergartens in Cheongju city. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 program for frequencies, percentages, t-test, F-test with Tukey post-hoc test, factor analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient and K-means clustering. The results of research are as follows: First, mothers' attachment types, children's self control and separation anxiety were correlated partially. Mother's anxiety and avoidance attachment were related to children's separation anxiety positively, but related to self-control negatively. That is, the higher mother's anxiety and avoidance attachment were, more separation anxiety children had experienced and less self-control children had. Second, children's self-control differed from mother's attachment types. Children showed higher self-control when mothers had secure attachment than those who had anxiety or avoidance attachment. Third, children's separation anxiety differed from the types of mother's attachment. That is, children showed higher separation anxiety when mothers had anxiety attachment than those who had secure or avoidance attachment. However, children showed less separation anxiety when mothers had secure attachment than those who had anxiety or avoidance attachment.
