중학생의 사교육 의존 의식과 문화에 관한 질적 연구

A Qualitative Study on Middle School Students' Dependenceconsciousness

본 연구는 학생들의 사교육 의존 의식과 문화의 형성 과정과 그 특성을 살펴봄으로써, 올바른 배움과 가르침이 공존하는 학습문화를 형성하는데 기여하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위해 지속적으로 학원교육을 받아온 여자중학생 9명을 선정하여 면담하였으며 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 사교육 의존 의식과 문화의 형성과정은 학생들의 학원교육 참여시기를 중심으로 분류하여 고찰되었다. 첫째, 초등학교 저학년과정에서 형성된 의존 의식과 문화는 일종의 사회적 통과의례처럼 여겨져 일상이 되어버린 타인지향적 학원 참여문화였다. 둘째, 초등학교 고학년과 중학교에 올라가면서 부모의 학습결정권 강화와 학습에 대한 불안감을 인지하면서 형성된 학업성취를 위한 추종적이며 경쟁적인 학원 참여문화였다. 다음으로, 사교육 의존 의식의 특성은 학교수업의 교수전략 부족과 학교교사들의 수업소홀로 인한 학교교육에 대한 불신, 학습통제.관리능력의 부족에서 오는 자기주도적 학습의 부재, 사교육의 경쟁적이며 차별적인 학습을 지향하는 일탈적 학습문화 그리고 상급학교 진학 및 학업성취의 도구로 인식되는 또 하나의 학습의 장(場)으로 나타났다.

This study investigated the building process and characteristics of students' dependenceconsciousness and culture on private education, which dominates their learning environment. It's aims were to examine the unique learning culture where learning and teaching co-exist. The subject of this study was 9 female middle school students who constantly received private education. Building dependence-consciousness and culture on private education were differentiated by the time students participated in each area. Firstly, it is noted that active participation in private education happened during the lower grades in elementary school. Secondly, once students reached the higher grades in elementary school and entered middle school, they began to participate in private education more competitively. Parents' concern for preparation in upcoming admission exams and students' anxiety for learning are considered similar to their realization that they need to engage in private education. Characteristics of dependency on private education are varied. The first characteristic is distrust of the public education system, created by a lack of teachers' teaching strategies and dedication. The second characteristic is a lack of self-initiated learning. The third characteristic is a deviant learning culture. Finally, students consider private education a method necessary in order to gain admission to higher educational institutions.
