우리나라 중고령자의 은퇴경로 유형과 은퇴 후 소득 비교

Comparison of Retirement Patterns and Post-Retirement Income Levels of the Elderly in Korea

본 연구는 국민연금연구원의 「국민노후보장패널」의 직업이력 자료와 3차 년도 개인자료를 활용하여 우리나라 중고령자 세대에서 발견되는 다양한 은퇴경로를 유형화하고 이에 따른 은퇴 후 소득 수준의 차이를 살펴보았다. 분석결과에 의하면, 첫째, 전통적인 은퇴경로라고 생각되어 온 생애 주된 일자리에서 생애 근로를 마감하는 완전 은퇴의 경향과 함께 가교 일자리를 통한 점진적 은퇴도 하나의 주된 은퇴 유형으로 자리 잡고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 은퇴 후 소득 수준은 은퇴경로에 따라 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 은퇴 후 소득 수준은 가교 일자리를 통해 은퇴하는 경우보다 생애 주된 일자리에서 은퇴하는 경우가 높으며, 이들 중에서는 공적연금을 수급 받고 있는 집단의 소득 수준이 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 의사결정나무모형으로 은퇴 후 소득에 대한 결정요인을 살펴본 결과에 의하면, 은퇴 후 소득 수준에 가장 영향력이 있는 변수는 교육수준이고 그 다음이 생애 근로 경험에 따른 은퇴경로의 유형이며, 이들 중에서는 공적연금 수급여부가 은퇴 후 소득 수준의 차이를 가져온 중요한 요인인 것으로 나타났다(JEL: I3, J0).

This study aims to categorize the various retirement patterns taken by middle-aged and senior citizens and examine the disparity in their income levels using the occupational history data and the three-year individual data in Korean Retirement and Income Study produced by the National Pension Research Institute. The study found that first, increasing numbers of people have been opting for gradual retirement, in which they take on a temporary job before retirement, as opposed to complete retirement, in which people end their working life by retiring from their main occupation. Second, post-retirement income levels depend very much on the form of retirement taken. Income levels were higher for people who had retired immediately after their primary occupation than for those who took on temporary jobs, and among the former group, income levels were higher for retirees receiving public pensions. Third, an examination of the factors determining post-retirement income levels using the decision tree model revealed that the most significant variable was the level of education, followed by the patterns of retirement, and where they were the same, the eligibility for public pension.
