This paper explores the causality and particulars between particles and prepositions taking place in postverbal positions. This is accordingly to elucidate the differential and inherent properties accruing from verb-particle/verb-prepositional cohesive units. Under the circumstances in which students at both middle and high schools have put their best foot forward in their craze for the acquisition of native-like communicative skills, with a wide panoply of English references, including textbooks, this provides L2 learners with a dictum concerning the differences between particles and prepositions. Knowing how to use phrasal and prepositional verbs in a discreet manner is not merely required but important, as much so as any skills of English. L2 learners do not familiarize themselves with the differences between phrasal and prepositional verbs. They should be able to use the phrases at hand, colloquially and grammatically. To see how phrasal and prepositional verbs are employed in the high school English textbooks, we look into and analyze the two kinds of English textbooks and get down to their brass tacks.
