<이현경전>의 후대적 수용과 의미

이 글은 <이현경전>이 후대 소설과 어떤 관련을 맺고 있으며, 소설사적 의미는 무엇인가를 밝히는데 목적을 두었다. <이현경전>의 사건 구조, 인물의 성격과 관계, 여성의식의 특징을 준거로 후대 작품과의 관련을 검토하였다. 그 결과 <이현경전>을 직간접 수용한 것으로 짐작되는 작품은 여성영웅소설의 범주에 속하는 것으로 <부장양문록>과 <정수정전>을 들 수 있고, 가문소설로는 <유이양문록>이 분명하며, 개화기에 신문에 개작 연재된 작품으로 <여영웅>이 있음이 확인된다. 이들 작품은 다른 갈래의 소설과 부단한 상호 작용을 하면서도 서사구조나 인물 형상 등에서 <이현경전>과 관련이 밀접하다. 따라서 <이현경전>은 18세기부터 개화기에 이르기까지 후대 작품에 지속적으로 영향을 끼치고 있다. 문학 작품은 다른 작품과의 상호 작용이 끊임없이 이루어진다는 관점에서 <이현경전>의 소설사적 의미를 세 가지 정도 짚어 보았다. 첫째, <이현경전>은 여성영웅소설의 입공담 모형을 완성하였으며, 여기에 신분노출담과 부부대립담 등을 두루 갖춤으로써 후대에 매우 다양하고 독특한 여성영웅소설이라는 하위 유형을 지속적으로 탄생시키는데 많은 영향을 끼쳤다고 판단된다. 둘째, <이현경전>에는 복수가문이 존재하고, 겹혼인에서 비롯된 갈등 및 처첩 갈등을 비중있게 다루고 있다. 이러한 점은 <유이양문록>과 같은 가문소설에서도 발견되는 요소로 여성영웅소설과 가문소설 간의 갈래교섭을 살펴볼 수 있다는 근거가 된다. 셋째, <이현경전>은 후대에 필사본, 신문 연재본, 활자본 등과 같이 다양한 매체를 통해 이본 또는 개작으로 변모 계승되면서 독자 대중에게 유통되었다. 이 과정에서 남녀 독자 모두를 고려하여 내용이 손질된 이본이 나타나기도 하였으며, 신문에 연재되면서 새로운 시대 상황을 반영하기도 하였다. 이 점에서 소설의 대중화와 통속화를 살펴볼 수 있는 적합한 자료로도 활용할 수 있다.

This thesis tries to figure out how much <LeeHyunKyeongJeon> has been related to novels of future generations and clarify what this work has meant in the novel history. The structure of events, character's personality and women's consciousness can be the criteria for judging how much this work has influenced on future generations' novels. In this work, a woman disguised herself as a man and achieved a great accomplishment, but she had some conflict because of marriage. The character's personality was superior to men's in many aspects. And the work had a characteristic that women showed wonderful self esteem. Judging from this criteria, the works which have been influenced by <LeeHyunKyeongJeon> are as follows. There are <BooJangYangMoonLock> and <JeongSuoJeongJeion> in the field of heroine novels. <YouLeeYangMoonLock> is the part of family novel world. Also Heroine is a serial story publicized in the newspaper. <LeeHyunKyeongJeon> has three meanings in the novel history. First, <LeeHyunKyeongJeon> established the basic structure of heroine novels. And it played a big role in producing other diverse and unique heroine novels continuously in the future generations. Second, we can search for the connections between the heroine novels and family novels through this work. These works had structural similarity. Most of the readers were women. They had common experiences of reading. Next, <LeeHyunKyeongJeon> spread through the various media such as transcribed text by posterity, publicized text in the newspaper, and printed text. Therefore, We make a conclusion that this work can be an material for scrutinizing publicity and popularity that the novels own.
