In 1982, when Japanese history textbook issue occurred, Korean and Japanese historians began to take notice of Germany-Poland history textbook talks. Especially, those who engaged in history education in Japan showed positive interest in the Germany-Poland history textbook talks because they wanted to critically examine the authorized textbook system and to teach their students the lessons of the talks. Some of the researchers organized groups for inclusive comprehension of the German-Poland talks. While doing there things, there appeared the study group of Comparative History and Comparative History Education. The groups has held the international symposiums every 5 years, which has offered the opportunities for East Asians, concerned in history education, to have a conversation with each other. On the other hand, the Japanese right wings and some conservative groups distorted the truth of the German-Poland textbook talks and tried to cover up the past Japanese invasion, insisting the impossibleness of Knowing the historical truth. They were afraid that their owen ground of historical concepts, including the Emperor system might collapse and, therefore, their political power might weaken if, in the process of textbook talks, the truth of their invasion was revealed. Some Korean researchers were also interested in the German-Poland textbook talks but, until the late 1980s, they could not do profound analysis about them except introduction papers. Then, noticeable activity appeared as four symposiums from 1991 to 1992; cooperative study on history textbooks by the International Textbook Institute(Korea) and Japan-Korea History Textbook Study Group(Japan). They reviewed the historical researchers on the relation of Korea and Japan and dealt with various issues about them. Those cooperative activities influenced, to a degree, the writing of Japanese history textbooks but were not reflected in Korean history textbooks. The biggest issue of the cooperative study was the publication of common history textbooks and the other issue was the writing of the 'joint advice memorandum on history education,' which had also been a product of the German-Poland talks. However, both attempts did not realize because of many obstacles.
