This study analyzed the formation and structure of the fishing villages formed by the Japanese settlers in Jeonbuk area under the rule of Japanese Imperialism. And this paper is a part of researches to review the modern history of fisheries on the West Coast, which has been remained as a history vacuum, departing from the context of dichotomy between the 'Exploitation Theory' and the 'Modernization Theory'. Here it presents the formation, development, downfall and their respective factors of the fishing villages formed by the Japanese settlers on the West Coast of Jeonbuk area in 1910s. It is a basic framework to generally induce the procedure of the structural change in the modern fishing villages on the West Coast. In short, in considers the consequential features of the colonial fishery in 1910s during the early Japanese colonization, particularly, how it was deployed on the West Coast of Jeonbuk area. It is a hope that in-depth researches on the local fisheries and the change in fishing villages formed by the Japanese settlers will provide the comprehensive consideration of the fisheries and the fishing villages on the West Coast. In the future, these researches shall be extended to the entire West Coast including even. Hwanghaedo and Pyeongando in North Korea.
