공동체 의례에 내재된 개인구복(個人求福)

A desire for personal blessing, embedded in the Community Ritual: A case of Geojeon village in Simpo-ri, Gimje-si, Jeonbuk province

공동체 신앙은 마을 주민들이 마을의 수호신에게 자신들의 마을과 구성원들의 일 년 무탈을 기원하면서 모시는 의례로 개인보다는 공동체 전체의 복을 기원하는 행위들로 이루어진다. 그러나 이러한 공동체 의례 속에는 공동체 구성원을 위한 의례뿐만 아니라 개인의 구복을 바라는 의례가 함께 포함되어 있다. 거전마을의 공동체 제의는 산신제와 용왕제, 그리고 질상제로 이루어져 있다. 이 공동체 의례는 남성들이 참여하는 것을 원칙적으로 배제하고 있으며 모든 의례들이 마을의 여성들에 의해 행해진다. 거전마을의 공동체 의례에서 개인 구보적인 행위를 살펴볼 수 있는데, 개인 소지(燒紙)와 교통사고를 예방하기 위해 질상제가 그것이다. 축문은 공식적인 기도문이어서 한 개인이나 가정의 다양한 소원을 전달하기에는 적합하지 않은 측면이 있는데 반해 소지는 개인 및 가정의 소망을 기원하는데 적합하다. 거전마을의 공동체 의례에 마을 여성들이 전부 참여할 수 있는 제의가 용왕제와 질상제인 점을 감안하면 모든 제의에 개인적인 소지를 올리고 있는 것이다. 질상제는 일종의 거리제로, 길을 다닐 때 일어날 수 있는 사고를 미연에 막고자 행하는 것으로 마을공동체 구성원뿐만 아니라 자녀들의 사고예방을 기원하는 의미를 담고 있다. 이렇듯 거전마을의 공동체 의례 속에는 개인 소지를 통한 개인구복과 질상제를 통한 가족구복의 행위들이 내재되어 있다. 마을 구성원 전체를 위한 공동체 의례는 겉으로 보기에 구성원 전체를 위한 것처럼 보이지만, 내부적으로는 공동체 구성원 개개인을 위한 구복 행위가 내재되어 있다는 것을 거전마을의 사례를 통해 알 수 있다.

The community ritual is that members of the village pray for no trobles during the year to the village guardian deity. It is made up of activities of praying for blessing for the whole community, rather than individuals. However, this ritual includes a desire for blessing of community members as well as individuals. The community ritual of Geojeon village consists of religious services for the mountain god and an jilsang ritual. It excludes the participation of males, while all ritual processes are prepared and done by female members of the community. An activity for personal blessing can be found in the ritual of Geojeon village, and its example is Jilsang ritual to prevent personal car accidents and to burn individual sacrificial papers. A written prayer is official for everyone, not conformed to desires of individual or one household. In contrary, the sacrificial paper may include a prayer for each individual or household. Considering that all female members participate in a ritual service for ocean god and Jilsang ritual, they may pray for themselves practically at all ritual. Jilsang ritual is a street fair, preventing from accidents which may happen during walking on the road. It contains blessings for community members as well as their children. Therefore, personal blessing through burning the sacrificial paper and family blessing at Jilsang ritual are embedded in the community ritual of Geojeong village. It seems to be focused on the blessing for community members, but this ritual truly means to pray for personal blessing.
