본 논문은 외국인 직접투자가 중국 자동차 산업의 생산성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 1995년부터 2007까지 5개의 중국의 자동차 부문별 섹터산업을 대상으로 패널 분석을 시행하였다. 연구의 결과 자본 집약도, 규모, 외국인투자, 운전 자본 회전율이 생산성에 유의한 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 노동의 질과 혁신 변수는 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 특히 외국인투자는 중국자동차 산업의 노동생산성에 정의 영향을 미치고 있으나 다른 변수에 비해 그 영향력이 상대적으로 작았다. 이는 외국기업들이 기술이전에 소극적이며, 중국 내 현지 여건 또한 기술이전이 원활히 이루어지기에는 미숙한 측면이 있기 때문인 것으로 볼 수 있다. 중국 자동차 산업의 발전을 위해 효율적인 외국인 투자를 유치하여야 할뿐만 아니라, 생산성 향상을 위해 활발할 글로벌 M&A를 통한 성장을 시도하여야 할 것이다.
This paper estimates empirically the effect of inward foreign direct investment of China's automotive industry on aggregate labor productivity. Production function model is used using panel data set at automotive sub-sector level. According to results of fixed effect panel model analysis, Inward FDI plays positive role in increasing industrial labor productivity. The findings also show that capital intensity, turn over, and firm size have more positive influence relative to the inward FDI on the productivity. To catch up technology gap of china automotive industry, effective inward FDI policy as well as global M&A should be pursued.
