文學에 나타난 ‘在日濟州人’ 認識 考蔡

Understanding and Embodiment of Chejuean Residents in Japan Through Literary Works

This study proposes to examine how Korean residents in Japan are described in literary works. That is why the study analyze the images of Chejuean residents in Japan represented in native literary works of Cheju Do as well as the ones in the works written by a few novelist living in Japan. Major topics of the novelists from Korea are like this: reality of lives experienced by Chejuean residents in Japan, Chjuean people's false image about them, their longing for the mother island, Chju island, their ideological conflict, the generation gap in their society, their unsettled conscousness of identity and so forth. In the novels of Korean writers living in Japan, their own perspectives on many challenges confronted by Chejuean residents in Japan are realistically described. They emphasized that the problems must be settled not by Chejuean residents but by Korean and Japanese governments - especially the cooperation and dialogue between the two governments.
