Similes are unquestionably important for Korean language learners to learn to improve their communication skills. However, similes have not been dealt with in conventional Korean language education as part of learning content. Moreover, As the steps to present similes covered in each textbook are not consistent and the types of presenting similes vary. Hence, it seems necessary to arrange simile expressions in a hierarchy stepwise. First of all, spoken and written corpus is examined by frequency of usage and errors learners make are identified to organize similes in a hierarchy. The frequency examined can be used as the basis to assort similes necessary for Korean language learners, and the errors identified seem significant in analyzing the difficulty of learners relevant to similes. In conclusion, based on these corpus and errors examined, similes are organized in a hierarchy of learning steps.
