Nursing Student's Practice Scores, Confidence and Satisfaction in Fundamentals of Nursing according to Teaching Method for Self-directed Practice

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the difference of the practice scores, confidence and satisfaction in Fundamentals of Nursing according to teaching method for self-directed practice. Method: In this experimental study, the treatments which were done in two times for the experimental group(53 people) were active participation of instructor and for the control group(49 people) were passive participation of instructor in self-directed practice. Data were analyzed with x 2-test, independent t-test, ANCOVA through SPSS program. Results: The practice scores in Fundamental Nursing, the confidence and satisfaction of the experimental group will be higher than the control group's was not verified(t=1.14, p=.258; t=.89, p=.374; t=.74, p=.461). According to the results of the additional analysis, the more the students thought for themselves that their attitude toward practice participation was active, the higher their practice scores were, the longer they participated in practice, the higher their confidence was and the more the students' attitude toward practice participation was active the higher their satisfaction was significantly. Conclusion: From the above results, to make practices of the Fundamentals of Nursing more effective, instructor must participate in practice as a facilitator to change students' attitude toward practice more active.
