The purpose of this study was to examine the changes in the writing of noun-verb phrases after the german orthography reform. For this purpose the following five dictionaries were consulted: Brockhaus Wahrig. Deutsches WÖrterbuch in sechs Bänden edited by G. Wahrig, H, Krämer & H. Zimmermann, Langenscheidts Groβwörterbuch. Deutsch als Fremdsprache. Das neue einsprachige Wörterbuch für Deutschlernende edited by D. Götz, G. Haensch & H. Wellmann as well as Das groβe Wörterbuch der deutschen Sprache in zehn Bänden, Die deutsche Rechtschreibung (2000) and Die deutsche Rechtschreibung (2004) edited by the editorial staff of Duden. The result was that there are 16 nouns which form noun-verb phrases written as two words. These are the following nouns: Acht, Bankrott, Eis, Halt, Hof, Kegel, Maschine, Maβ, Not, Pleite, Posten, Probe, Rad, Schach, Ski and Wache. Those noun-verb phrases which contain one of these nouns were reviewed in detail with regard to their orthographical changes.
