Conditions of Higher Education in Taiwan

Causes and Consequences

This paper examines the conditions of higher education in Taiwan since 1950 with a special focus on recent reform and challenges faced. Two rapid expansions were observed in the history of Taiwan's higher education. Policies were also initiated to reform the entrance system. Possible explanations for the current conditions of Taiwan's higher education are elaborated and examined. At the end, future challenges for Taiwan's higher education are discussed.
