The study the Guknaeseong of the Koguryo’s Capital

  • 648

The Guknae(國內) is the second capital of Koguryo. The castle of Guknae was built as a soil-made at first. But it was reconstructed as a stone-made castle. We are now guessing that parts and spaces around the castle were the palace of king and town. The castle of Guknae had been destroyed since in the early of the 20st century. The castle of Guknae was investigated by Japanese in the early of the 20st century. It has been also investigated by chinese with excavation partly since in the late of the 20st century. But, there were no any thorough investigation and excavation yet. Regarding the time point of the Koguryo’s transfer of the capital to the Guknae, there have been two theories suggested so far. One of them suggested that the capital transfer took place during the King Sansang(山上王), and one of them suggested that the capital transfer took place during the King Yuri(琉璃王). Thorough examination of related records and historical texts revealed that, during the King Sansang, the capital was transferred to the Guknae. The capital transfer to the Guknae should presumably have taken place in the early of the 3st century. There are another castle inside the 『Samguksagi』 during the King Dongcheon(東川王). It is the castle of Pyeongyang(平壤). It was located in the Guknae region. Thorough examination of related records revealed that, during the King Dongcheon, the castle of Pyeongyang was same with the castle of Guknae. So, the castle of Guknae should presumably have built as a stone-made in the middle of the 3st century.
