Research on the Historical Development and Identity of the Hui Zu in modern China - A focus on the establishment of the ‘Ningxia Huizu Autonomy Region’ -

It is the purpose of this research to exam the progress of establishment of the ‘Ningxia Huizu Autonomy Region’, and the cultural identity of the Hui Zu in the field of religion(Islam), language, education. The focus is concentrate on the establishment of the ‘Ning Xia Hui Zu Autonomy Region’ after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Moreover this research will analyze out the identity of the Huizu in the Autonomy by the Islam, Huizu language and primary education. This theme has also a significance of more objective verifications on the research of the chinese scholars, who make a conclusion that Hui Zu Autonomy policy is successful coordinated in the Minority Policy of the Marxism. Especially the process of the establishment ‘Ning Xia Hui Zu Autonomy Region’ has been very complicated, i.e. as the region was completely occupied by Chinese Communist Party’s the People’s Liberation Army in 23th September 1949, the administration system of a republic as a ‘Ning Xia Province’. But in . B4 the Province was abrogated and divided into Arasan Left Qi, Arasan Right Qi, Echina Qi and Hedengkou Xian, and directly these Qi were belonged to ‘Inner Monolian Autonomy Region’. Although Hui Zu was strongly resisted this policy, after all 2Bth October 1958 established ‘Ning Xia Hui Zu Autonomy Region’. In 1969 even the Hui Zu resided region in the ‘Inner Monolian Autonomy Region’ was incorporated into the ‘Ning Xia Hui Zu Autonomy Region’.(but this region was reentered into the ‘Inner Monolian Autonomy Region’ in 1979) For the purpose of analysis of this political considerable development, in this study will carry out also research on the cultural identity of the Hui Zu include religion, language, and education. Material will utilized not only chinese scholars research but also Hui Zu scholars study and on-line material. Therefore this research will accomplish general and objective conclusion.
