The study is arranged into four parts, The first part sets the details of the political climate which had been necessitated the extablishment of the Oriental Development Company. The second part examines the principal means by which the Oriental Development Company promoted the immigration of the Japanese farmers into Korea. In the third part, particular attention is given to the fact that the Osakas merchants who became majority stock-holder of the Oriental Development Company took an active lead in assisting the transforma-tion of Korea’s peasant agriculture into an export agriculture. The last part gives an account of Oriental Development Company served as an extremely effective instrument for expropriation of the Korean peasantry.
