濊貊 문제의 文獻的 再檢討

The Review of Points at Issue on Yemaek(濊貊) in Documents

  • 421

Before the Han dynasty(漢代) the naming of YeㆍMaek(濊ㆍ貊) had been very confused from old Chinese historical records. Buyeo(夫餘) started on a national enterprise as Ye(濊) tribe a given center and Gogurye(高句麗) Maek(貊) tribe respectively. Ye(濊) and Maek(貊) belong to the Korean race as a same lineage. The notional entity of Yemaek was changed not in the parts of the Korean peninsula. Two tribes were branched off in different localities and they develop their own social and cultural characteristics. Through territorial expansion two parties were mixed with each other. Calling Yemaek for Buyeo or Gogurye might be caused by the reason. After naming Buyeo or Gogurye the sphere of YeㆍMaek influence had existed without the political power of two countries. From the records of Samguksagi(三國史記) Malgal(靺鞨)’s frequent invasions to Baekje(百濟) and Silla(新羅) mean that the location of Malgal and that of Maek were overlapped. So Maek(貊) was in the central part of Korean Peninsula as the entity of Malgal. Until the third century when Samgukji(三國志) was written, the name of Malgal didn’t exist in the Chinese history books. After the end of the fourth century, Malgal’s military operations to Baekje were controlled by Nakrang’s instigation. Ye was distributed in the reigns of Hamnan and eastern & northern areas of Gangwon-do from the analysis of Samguksagi(三國史記) and Malgal influence migrated to Gangneung before the fourth century. Maek power was distributed the reigns of Chuncheon in the center with the northern areas of Youngseo in Ganwon-do and of Gyeogngi-do.
