A Study of the View on the Tangun(檀君) and Historical Settlement in Koryo Period

The images of the Tangun were various in Koryo period. The transmission of Tangun was made new versions to connect several social situations lasting an era. It means that the contents are added up with the existing transmissions. When we study them in detail, the contents are found out so lively aspects. It is that the transmission of Tangun is to act as some meaning in Koryo period. Especially, it was used positively in connection with the geomancer’s art(圖讖), which it’s impossible without far and wide understanding of them. It’s useful to pursue spatial and comprehensive extent about the transmission of Tangun in Koryo period. The thesis studied how does the understanding of Tangun changed to relate several social element. The first, it tried to search the possibility of new type about the transmission of Tangun, which it seems connect of that of the Kuwol(九月) mountain. The second, it studied on relation of the Tangun transmission and the Eighth Saint(八聖), particularly the Eighteenth Child’s geomancy(十八子之讖). The third, it studied on the background of Tangun’s historical settlement in late Koryo period. It is watched that the intellectuals and confucianist reconstruct of old Joseon and Tangun.
