The relations of Allakuk to the Baekche in 6 centuries

  • 226

As the research of the Kava History has begun in earnest, the interest in Kumkwankuk (Kimhae) and Karakuk (Koryung) has moved to the development process of the Kaya Empire. Consequently the research in Allakuk showed a marked progress. It comes into view, that Allakuk developed in a peculiar way in the 5th and 6th century. Allakuk, irrevelant with Karakuk, which was acknowledged as the leader of the allied nations in the latter period, adopted new measures suited to Baekche and Shilla, who advanced to the Kaya region. Viewed in this light, the viewpoint, that Karakuk made a confederation and became the leader of it in the latter half of the 19th century, will have to be reconsidered. It’s possible to provide the relations between Allakuk and Baekche into three periods. The first period was until A.D. 529. During this time Allakuk showed an amicable position about Baekche’s advance to the Kimun area. Shilia conclude an alliance with Kara through a marriage. So Shilla began to advance to the South of Kaya with Allerkuk’s implied agreement. In the second period, since Baekche advanced to the Daesa region, Allakuk felt be threatened by Baekche and held the Alla-conference. They also concentrate all diplomatic efforts through their envoys to stop Shilla’s westward advance. In other words, they restrained Baekche and carried out a friendly policy to Shilla. On the other hand, Baekche’s result of jusing Japan and their diplomatic efforts to have the Kaya Empire such as Allakuk on their side, was the Sabi-conference. But Allakuk’s anti-Baekche and Shilla-amicable diplomatic policy ended in failure. Finally Allakuk and Koguryo, the two nations tried to maintain confidentially amicable relations to restrain Baekche, but it was also unsuccessful. In the third period, Allakuk became amicable with Baekche and participated in Baekche’s war against Koguryo and Shilla. However Baekche lost the war. Finally. Allakuk couldn’t maintain their independence between Baekche and Shilla and was destroyed.
