The murder of Meng Keh Timur (猛哥帖木兒) who swore allegiance to both Korea and Ming China was a great blow to Chien-chou Left Guard(建州左衛). Fortunately, however, due to his younger brother Fan-cha’s(凡察) health the Left Guard survied the crisis. Fan-ch’a(凡察) was appointed Left Guard District Commander(左衛의 都督僉事) by the Ming Emperor, but he became Chief of Right Guard because Meng Keh Timur’s (猛哥帖木兒) young son T’ung-ch’uang(童創) was appointed by virtue of direct line Chief of Left Guard(左衛의 酋長) by the Ming. Since the murder of Meng Keh Timur until the Guard was separated, both T’ung-ch’uang(童創) and Fan-ch’a(凡察) stayed with Chin-chou Guard Chief, Li Man -chu(建州衛酋長, 李滿住), Among Fan-ch’a’s official servants there were some who remained in their original residence without changing the place. When Fan-ch’a’s elder brothers remained in their original place Korea had the whole remainders united under Pan-ch’a’s eldest brother Yü-hsǝ-li(於虛里) Fan-ch’a informed the Ming of this fact and asked for intervention in order to bring the remainders back to his side. To this, Ming sent an envoy to Korea for the purpose of investigating the remainders’ residence. But, at the Korea-Ming joint investigation the remainders refused to change the residence, and the Ming envoy’s Korea mission became meaningless. However, part of the remainders escaped to Fan-ch’a’s side as soon as Ming envoy’s residence investigation was completed because Korea showed Ming envoy only those remainders who wished to remain. On the other hand, at this time Fan-ch’a and Li Man-chu(李滿住) sent official servants to Korea expressing their desire to submit to Korea. This was due to the invasions they had from the Tartars in the north. Close relations were about to be made between Korea and Li Man-chu(李滿住). But, Ming China, knowing of this new development, reproached Korea for its attitude toward Li Man-chu, and Korea had to deny Li’s entrance into Korea.
