자살테러리즘에 관한 연구

Suicide Terrorism : A Study Focused on the Psychology of Suicide Terrorists

현대사회는 테러환경의 변화가 급속하게 이루어지고 있고 기존의 항공기 납치·폭파, 요인암살 등과 같은 전통적인 테러형태에서, 2001년 9.11 테러사건 이후 다양한 동기를 가지고 불특정 다수의 일반인들을 대상으로 무차별적인 동시다발 테러양상 으로 변화하고 있다. 일반적으로 자살테러는 일반적인 테러보다도 충동성이 배제되고 조직의 전략적 목적의 일부로 좀 더 철저하게 계획되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 테러범의 사회․심리적 배경과 자살테러범의 성격적 특성, 자살테러의 진행과정과 징후, 자살테러의 심리적 동기요인과 구성요소 등 다양한 관점에서 자살테러를 논의 하였다. 또한 자살테러범의 심층적인 심리학적 분석을 통해 그들의 행위가 정의감이나 영웅이 되는 순교의 행위로 인식하고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다. 그러나 일부의 자살테러는 테러조직에 의해 이용되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었는데, 이는 자발적인 자살테러 이외에 테러조직에의한 의도적인 자살도 많다는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 다양한 동기로 인해 자살테러는 자행되고 있고 앞으로도 끊임없이 계속될 수 있기 때문에 이에대한 효율적인 대책이 필요하다. 자살테러에 대한 대응이 결코 쉬운 일은 아니지만 자살테러의 피해를 줄이기 위한 방법으로 공격적인 대웅방법과 방어적인 대응방법이 적절할 것으로 사료된다.

In the modern society, after the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, terror environments are rapidly changing and strategies & tactics for terrorist attacks are shifting from the conventional types such as airplane hijacking & exploding or VIP assassination, to indiscriminative, simultaneous and coordinative attacks, instigated by various motives, on many and unspecific persons. In general, suicide terrors are less instigated by impulses compared to common terrors and more carefully planned as a vehicle to achieve strategic purposes of an organization. This research aims to analyze suicide terrors from different perspectives including social and psychological and mental backgrounds of suicide terrorists, personality traits ofsuch terrorists, symptoms and progress of suicide terrors, and mental motives and elements of such terrors. Even though it is never easy to cope well with suicide terrors, in this research, realistic and practical countermeasures including offensive and defensive ones against such terrors are suggested to diminish damages caused by such terrors.
