Under the reign of king Tae- jo(太祖), a project of expedition to the Liao-tung peninsula was executed by Jung To-jun(鄭道傳). In the summer of 1398, however, the project ended in a vain from the assasination of Jung To-jun by Prince Pang Won’s(芳遠) men. The opposer as Pang-won deprived Jung To-jun of his political power as well as condemned him to rebel. His project of expedion to Liao-tung was recorded carelessly and extorted in historical materials which writen by the opposers of him. The expedition to the Liao-tung Peninsula did not projected by Jung To-jun only for the escaping of his blames conneted with Memorenda (表箋) as writen in the Annals of Yi Dynasty. In fact, he executed the project before the outbreak of troubles connected with memorenda. When the Ming authorities heard about the project, they worried the Korean advance into Liao-tung. Henceforth the Ming authorities expected to concilate the worry by the elimnation of Jung To-jun. They claimed to commit Jung To-jun to them, however the claim was not admitted by the Yi authorities. The troubles connected with memorenda influened delicatly on the project of expedition to Liao-tung and political atmosphere of Yi dynasty. First the troubles gave to the split of the Merit Subjects in two; some of the Merit Subjects maintained to expell of Jung To-Jun as a responsible person for the memorenda, and others dissented from it. Second, the claims of Ming authorities precipitate Jung To-jun and his men to drive the project of expedition and strong policy on domestic affairs. Third, the serious conflict of Merit Subjects caused parlty Prince Pang-won’s coup d’état.
