A syntax-driven approach to aspects in Korean: arguing against the lexical specification approach of Cho(2007)

이 논문의 목적은 조민정(2007)에 대한 비판적 고찰을 통하여, 한국어 어휘상 연구에 있어서 통사론적 접근 방식을 제시하는 것이다. 어휘상의 어휘부 명세에 반대하여, 어휘상은 근본적으로 통사부의 투사 방식에 의하여 결정됨을 주장한다. ‘T-동안’ 부사어에 의한 종결성 판정은 유효하지 않으며, [±순간성]의 자질 설정은 어휘상 분류에 있어서 필요하지 않음을 밝힌다.

This paper provides a critical review of Cho(2007), which is basically couched on the lexical semantics approach. Arguing against the lexical encoding of aspects, this paper presents a syntax-driven approach to aspects in Korean. The main claims are as follows; first, syntactic projections, rather than lexical inherent properties, fundamentally determine aspects. Second, the telicity test by an aspectual adverbial ‘T-tongan (for T)’ is not valid because it can cooccur with a telic event thereby resulting in an atelic interpretation. Third, the aspectual property [±instantaneity] is not firmly validated for classification of lexical aspects.
