The result of this research about environmental awareness problems in Korea and Japan by considering the problem of household waste is as follows. To improve environmental problems, people in both countries think that, first, each citizen needs to participate to resolve garbage problems. Second, they think that all the family members of each household need to take some responsibility. Third, when it comes to individual responsibilities for environmental awareness matters, Japanese have a more developed sense of personal responsibility than do Koreans. Fourth, Koreans tend to see greater roles for civic movements and non-profit organizations for dealing with environmental problems. The spread of environmental consciousness seems to have followed different paths in Korea and Japan. As a result, Japanese people have a more developed sense of individualistic environmental attitude whereas Koreans have a more developed sense of collectivistic environmental attitude.
