This study is aimed for the research on Shimazaki Toson’s verses, in terms of analysing his verses influenced by Wordsworth. This thesis is emphasized on the analysis of the transfigurations of words, expressions, and thoughts in the Wordsworth’s verses in the course of reception and modification of them, which expressed on his poetry volume Wakanasyu, Hitohabune, Natsukusa, Rakubaisyu. This study is centered on comparing Toson’s poetry with Wordsworth’s verses, and finding out parallels and similar plot and frame of poem among them, and the distinct relationship between modern way of thinking in Japanese Meiji Era. In his encounter with Wordsworth, the very first Western poets he ever had contact with. Tracing the parallels between the two poets, Toson and Wordsworth, there could be seen similarity in use of the vocabulary, poetic idea, and poetic mind. It is sure that Toson was influenced by Intimation on Immortality of Wordsworth, the expression “The Child is the father of the Man”. There was few Japanese literature expression just as closing up ‘child’ as a poetic material in patriarchal society like Meiji Era.
