The main objective of this paper is to test the Ricardian equivalence proposition for five European countries by focusting on the retriction of complete tax discounting. E,pirical results show that this restriction is not rejected for all five European countries. We conclude that five European countries ate following government budget policies that are compatible with their long-run solvency, and that they would have a positive effect on European Economic Union since rhe countries will not resort to the inflation tax in the future.
