Communitarian Personalism and Methodological Individualism

This paper is attemped to explore the contrast between the Western Thought and East Asian thought with special reference to methodology in terms of moral philosophy are explored and same similarities and difference are noted. Some significant results of this study are as follows. Firstly, As to the explanation of development of Korea Economy in the last 3 decades, the application of pure Wsetern tools of economies seems to be insufficient especially from the anthropologycal viewpoint. Its success in the development looks more attributed to the traits of Confucian culture, based on the communitarian personalization instead of individualism, which refers to the basic assumption of modern economies. Secondly, in standardized establishment of economic theory, the rational logic mostly referring to linear approach concentratin on cause and effect analysis is used conventionally, whereas in East Asian Countries, in view of their cultral traits, communitarian personalism would provide us with circulating word vision that is likely to lead to harmony with individuals and groups of society, instead of variance coefficient and struggle among them. Thirdly, this paper would not reject rationally in individualism based on morally justified prudence. The very defects arising from the extrem self interest seeking behavior nowadays would be revised through the communitarian personalism rooted in East Asian culture that must be followed by holistic approach in economic analysis. Herewith, methodologically, the West and the East would be met together to generate a synthesized approach to economics.
