The previous L2 studies regarding interlanguage tense-aspect use have predicted that the tense-aspect morphology would be distributed according to the lexical aspects of verbs and discourse structure such as Foreground and Background. Bardovi-Harlig(1995) and other researchers argued that L2 learners’ tense-aspect use are sensitive to the lexical aspect of the verbs. Hopper(1979) argued that past tense was the most prevalent tense morphology in the foreground. The research questions of the current study are as below; RQ 1. Do Chinese learners of Korean use tense-aspect morphology according to lexical aspect of verbs? RQ2. Do Chinese learners of Korean use tense-aspect morphology according to discourse structure of foreground and background? The data was collected by story rewriting task conducted for 30 minutes. 833 predicates were extracted out of 528 sentences for the analysis of tense-aspect morphology.
