The importance of the textbook evaluation becomes crucial where the materials play a central role in the language teaching and learning environments. Recently, since there have been widely expansion of Korean for specific purposes, teachers are required to select appropriate textbooks among the published ones. For the right selection from many textbooks in the market, reflecting the goals for teaching contexts and needs of learners, the objective and scientific criteria have to be established which can help to judge whether those textbook are appropriate or not. This paper will provide the framework of textbook evaluation based on the analysis of previous material evaluation models. The paper begins with the examination of features of the existing models for evaluation of language teaching materials and moves to the basic considerations for designing new models for materials evaluation.
