In this paper, we aim to pursue a unified principle by making a close examination of language-specific parameters; especially with regard to English of, Chinese de, Japanese -no, Korean -uy and the classifier phrases within a DP. Following Kayne (2005), we assume that the English of can be reanalyzed as being VP-external. The convention of regarding prepositions or postpositions as Case-assigners, assuming a PP constituency of PDP, will be re-examined, and the derivation will be explained via merge and movement. The pleonastic of and its function as a complementizer will be discussed. Based on the English partitive of, Korean -uy, Japanese -no, and Chinese de are discussed in pursuit of a unified structural derivation through merge and movement.
