미국 사이버대학원 운영 사례분석과 시사점

A Case Study of Online Graduate Schools in U. S. A.

최근 국내에서는 사이버대학에서의 사이버대학원 설립이 법적으로 허용되어 사이버대학원 설립이 확대될 전망이다. 고등교육의 기회확대와 평생교육의 실현을 담당한 사이버대학원이 국내에 성공적으로 정착되기 위해서는 사이버대학원의 설립 및 운영에 대한 연구가 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 국내 사이버대학원 설립과 운영을 위하여 미국에서 성공적으로 운영되고 있는 사이버대학원을 선별하여 그 사례를 분석하였다. 각 사례별로 설립배경 및 특징, 규모, 석사학위 교육과정 내용, 학사운영 방법, 수업모형 및 수업운영전략을 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 시사점을 도출하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 사이버대학원의 교과과정 편성, 운영과 평가방안, 교수ㆍ학습 모형 선정, 수업지원 인프라 구축 및 지원방안에 대한 시사점을 정리함으로써 국내 사이버대학원의 선진화 방향에 기틀을 마련하고자 하였다.

As the importance of continuing education is increased, the need for online graduate schools in Korea is growing. The purposes of this study are to analyze cases of successful graduate online school in U. S. A and to draw implications which help establish and administer online graduate school in Korea. The cases included in the analysis were Western Governors University, Penn State University World Campus, Boston University Online, Drexel University Online, and Temple University Online. This study examined each case in terms of the background of the school, characteristics of curriculum, administration, instructional model, instructional strategies, evaluation, and the learning management systems. As results, suggestions in designing curriculum, operating strategies, evaluation strategies, instructional models, and implementing learning management systems were discussed.
