〈사촌형님 노래〉의 소통 매체적 성격과 교육

〈사촌형님 노래〉는 사촌형님과 동생이 시집살이에 대한 체험과 정서를 주고받는 대화로 이루어져 있는 민요로서, 전통 사회에서 시집살이하는 여자들 사이에서 시집살이의 고통과 시름을 나누는 소통 매체적 성격을 띠고 있다. 이 글에서는 〈사촌형님 노래〉의 소통 매체적 성격을 살펴보고, 이를 활용한 교육 방안을 제시하였다. 〈사촌형님 노래〉의 소통 매체적 성격으로는 ‘극적 노래를 통한 거리 두기, 대등한 주체 사이의 관계 맺기, 공동 서사 속에 자기-서사 말하기, 열린 구조에 의한 의미 만들기’를 들 수 있다. 이러한 성격으로 인해 시집살이하는 여자들은 〈사촌형님 노래〉를 부름으로써 마음껏 자신들의 체험과 정서를 공유하고 소통할 수 있었고, 이를 통해 어려운 시집살이를 극복할 수 있었다. 고등학교 문학 교과서에는 〈사촌형님 노래〉 중 ‘한탄형+접대형’에 속하는 작품이 수록되어 있는데, 대부분 이 작품의 운율 및 표현, 시대적 배경을 살펴보는 데에 중점을 두고 있다. 그러나 이는 이 노래의 외면적, 표면적 특징만을 교육하는 데에 그치는 것으로서, 노래의 소통 매체적 성격을 살려 학습자들로 하여금 노래 속 화자의 체험과 정서를 이해하고 공감하며, 이를 바탕으로 다른 사람과 원활한 소통을 할 수 있는 주체로 성장할 수 있도록 교육할 필요가 있다. 그럼으로써 학습자들 스스로 문학의 창조와 수용을 통한 문학문화적 소통의 주체가 될 수 있을 것이다.

This paper investigated characteristics as a medium of communication and education of Elder Cousin Song. Elder Cousin Song is the type of folk song composed with dialog between female cousins. It has the characteristics as a medium of communication about their sufferings and conflicts in their hard married life between female cousins. There are four characteristics in Elder Cousin Song as follows; Keeping a distance through the dramatical song, Forming a relationship between equal subjects, Speaking self-narrative in the common narrative, Making a meaning by the open structure. Women suffering from the hard married life can communicate their experiences and emotions, moreover can come over their hard married life through this song. Elder Cousin Song, specifically the complex type of lamentation and reception, is put in the Literature for the high school students. The teaching goals of this song are focused on the expression and rhythm, however these goals remains only in the outer and exterior characteristics of song. We should educate the students to understand the speaker’s experience and emotion in song, moreover to communicate with others when they confront with real problems. I suggested the need to educate learners to be literature-cultural subjects through creation and reception of literature.
