A Basic Study on Developing the Back-to-farm Community Village

The purpose of this study was to explore characteristics and development process of back-to-farm community villages that were developed by the rural village development policy in order to suggest basic information on the back-to-farm community development. Literature review and in-depth interview technique were main research methods in this study. Three resident representatives of community villages answered the semi-structured questionnaire regarding move-in reasons, location, residential environment, and resident participation of the villages. These were analyzed using content analysis technique. The findings are as follow. 1) Important factors of back-to-farm community village development were found to be project theme, continuous resident meeting, common space, and village regulation. It was necessary to build information system of various government subsidy programs to support farm village development. 2) Resident representatives pointed out the necessity of residents’ participation in development process before their move-in. Thus, local government should support development of training program for residents’ participation in development process and participation of professional groups who can conduct the program.
