The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics and application on contemporary container architecture as an alternative of flexible space utilization reflecting modern lifestyle. A document research method was used to analyze and classified the spatial characteristics of the container architecture since 2005. The results are as follows: First, major characteristics of container architecture are deploy-ability, modularity, mobility and movability. Second, the types of space construction are dynamically self-erecting structure, incremental structure, and mobile and disposable architecture. Finally, current application types of container architecture are classified into the spacial and skin parts. The spacial aspects are commercial spaces, housing spaces such as dormitory and urban compact apartments, and the multi-purpose spaces such as gallery and culture space as well as temporary spaces. The skin parts includes artistic images by applying materials and colors and structural objects in the elevation of containers. It was attempted to resolve the concept of flexibility and mobility through the experiment so that they could be applied to the space of contemporary city.
