안사의 난 이후 洛陽 皇帝의 宗廟는 파괴된다. 반란동안 파괴된 禮治秩序를 회복하기 위하여 관료들은 이를 유지할지 다시 세울지에 관하여 논쟁을 일으킨다. 이는 주례와는 어긋났기 때문이다. 德宗、 穆宗、 文宗、 武宗、 宣宗 때 상당한 논의가 일어났다. 그러다가 문종 때 종묘를 낙양에 건설하지만 祖先의 神主는 두지 않기로 한 것이다. 그런데 무종이 즉위하자 다시 논쟁이 일어난다. 武宗과 宣宗은 관중 지역이 천재와 경제 낙후로 날로 쇠퇴하는데다 정치, 경제, 군사전략상의 위치는 더욱 더 중요해지고 있으므로 황제의 종묘를 유지하고 다시 세우기로 결정하였다.
The emperor’s ancestral temples(ATs) of the Tang Dynasty built in LuoYang were destroyed during the An-Shi armed rebellion. In order to resume the ritual order which was destroyed during the rebellion, some bureaucrats raised doubts and questions on the rationality and necessity of keeping and rebuilding the emperor’s ATs in LuoYang which were contrary to the Zhou Dynasty’s ritual system that was recorded by some Confucianist writings, which resulted in long-drawm-out and heated debate during Emperor Dezong, Muzong, Wenzong, Wuzong and Xuanzong. though Emperor Wenzong made up a decision that rebuilding the emperor’s ATs in LuoYang. there were no ancestral memorial tablets, and did not hold sacrificial rites. When Emperor Wuzong was on the throne, the debate was recurred, Though the suggestion of abolishing the emperor’s ATs in LuoYang got the upper hand, in view of the GuanZhong region fell into decay with each passing day because of natural and man-made calamities, at the same time, the political, economic and military strategic importance of LuoYang became more and more obvious, Emperor Wuzong and Xuanzong both decided to keep and rebuild the emperor’s ATs in LuoYang successively in accordance to with the time and the place.
