KKhao Vassa" Ritual and its Soundscape Function of the Dai Minority in Jinggu

People convey their religious beliefs through rituals, of which soundscape is an integral part. Focusing on the “KKhao Vassa” ritual of Theravada Buddhism in the Jinggu region and the soundscape in devotional scriptures, a preliminary analysis of Theravada Buddhism ritual in the Jinggu region and its soundscape is presented in this paper using Yang Minkang’s Classification of Theravada Buddhism Ritual Music and Merriam’s on Music Function. It is concluded that the changing soundscape in ritual is to convey religious beliefs, enhance the sentiment of believers, and realize successful completion and ritual purposes.
