This paper reviews some of the recent analytical studies dealing with the potential economic benefits arising from a stronger engagement between the EU and several strategic partners - the United States, China, Japan, and Russia. Based on these empirical findings it concludes with a discussion of the main trade policy options facing Europe in the next few years.
