The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of spaced repetition and nature of repetition(retrieval) on vocabulary learning for elementary school students. To achieve the research goal, this study investigated the following key questions: 1) Does presentation of word form and meaning repeatedly give a positive effect on learning vocabulary? 2) Do different ways of presenting word form and its meaning bring different results on learning vocabulary?: simultaneous presentation of both a form and its meaning vs delay presentation between a word form and its meaning. One hundred sixty one students of Grade 4 participated in the experiment, consisting of 3 groups: control group, experiment group 1 and experiment group 2 for 20 weeks. Data was collected to examine how much spaced repetition and retrieval was helpful for learners to learn vocabulary. Three different types of vocabulary test were administered to evaluate different knowledge of vocabulary of students after experiment. This study concluded that presentation of word form and its meaning repeatedly and delayed presentation between a word and its meaning helped students learn formal features of a word, its meaning and connect the form to the meaning.
