미술교육에서 민속예술의 활용 가치

Application Value of Folk Art in Art Education

본고는 미술교육 영역 안에서 민속예술의 다양한 활용을 통해 현대의 교육 성격에 맞는 전통문화예술 교육의 가치를 밝히는 데 그 목적이 있다. 민속예술의 본질과 현재의 미술교육을 살펴보고 현대미술과의 연계한 교육 및 주제중심통합교육 등으로 미술교육에서 민속예술의 활용 가치를 논하였다. 민속예술은 우리 민족의 삶을 엿볼 수 있고, 그 안에서 삶의 지혜, 애환, 염원 등을 확인할 수 있다. 민화, 민속조각, 공예 교육을 통해 해학적 표현과 민간에서의 소박한 미의식 등 생활 속에서 미를 찾고 만들어 가는 창조적 정신을 배울 수 있으며 민속신앙 속 의식, 민속놀이, 민속극을 활용한 교육을 통해 생활문화와 관련된 개방적 사고와 현실을 슬기롭게 극복해 가는 지혜, 공동체의식 등을 형성할 수 있다. 그리고 현대의 행위예술 표현과 연계한 교육으로 학습자 및 그 주변에서 현재 일어나고 있는 다양한 내․외적 문제나 갈등 해소의 기회를 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 그 가치가 있다고 할 것이다. 민속예술의 교육으로 전통문화예술에 대한 가치와 우수성을 발견하고 자칫 정체성 혼란을 불러일으킬 수 있는 세계화시대에 정체성과 자긍심을 함양할 수 있으며 다양한 시각문화 환경에 적응할 수 있는 능력을 갖춰 나가는데도 중요한 교육이 될 수 있을 것이다.

This study aims to reveal values of traditional art suitable to modern education through different applications in art education. Essence of folk art and modern art education is reviewed and application value of folk art in art education such as teaching related to modern art and thematic integrated education is discussed in this study. Folk art can show our ethnic lives, wisdom, grief, and wishes of people. First, learners can learn humorous expressions and simple esthetic sense by teaching folk paintings, folk sculptures, and folk crafts, which means creative minds to find out beauty through everyday lives. Second, learners can form open-minded thinking related to everyday cultures and wisdom to solve problems in everyday lives, and community spirit by applying folk religions, folk plays, and folk dramas for teaching. Finally, art education related to modern performance art has values in that it can provide learners with opportunities to solve various conflicts. In conclusion, folk art education can be a key to show values of traditional art education, to raise identities and pride as Koreans in the age of globalization, and to bulid abilities to adjust to diverse visual environments.
