In order to achieve strategic goals, a corporation may choose M&A (mergers and acquisitions). The main purpose of M&A is usually not to realize the speculative earnings, but to obtain or strengthen the core competency of the corporation. A successful M&A strategy may result in not only resource restructuring, but also competitive advantages in an industry. “Beyond technology” is a key concept of Neusoft as an IT solution & service company. After years of hard work, Neusoft has become one of the largest IT service company in China and wants to become a globally competitive player with excellent software solutions and services. Neusoft has implemented the strategic initiatives such as open innovation, alliance with partners, and continuous process improvement. Neusoft bought three companies (Harman, Taproot, Sesca) in 2009. Two are mobile phone software companies: Taproot and Sesca. The paper analyzes the M&A strategy of Neusoft Corporation both from the theoretical perspective on the basis of M&A theories and from the practical perspective. From the analysis, this paper discusses reasons for selecting those companies, expected outcomes, and lessons learned.
