The article represents the results of the author’s research of the image of an author to Russian documentary “verbatim” plays. Based on an analysis of a number of plays (“Sober PR” by Olga Darfy, “Crimes of passion” by Galina Sinkina, “Homeless” by Alexander Rodionov, etc.), the article reveals that the documentary play “verbatim”, while often presented as an example of objectivity and a translation of some genuine reality, often is in the first place the author’s translator.
