본고는 어휘 교육의 목표와 교육 내용에 대한 이론적인 고찰을 검토한 후 실제로 가능한 어휘 교육의 방안을 찾아보려는 논의이다. 특히 본고에서는 어휘 교육의 이상태로서 어휘 교육 관련 논의들과 현실태로서의 현장에서의 어휘 교육을 살펴본 후, 양자의 간극을 좁혀 보고자 하였다. 어휘 교육의 목표는 학습자의 어휘 능력 신장에 있다. 학습자의 어휘 능력을 신장하기 위해서는 양적ㆍ질적인 지식을 확충하고, 표현과 이해 양 측면의 어휘 활용 능력을 기르며, 어휘에 대한 올바른 태도를 함양해야 한다. 본고에서는 학습자의 어휘 능력을 신장하기 위해서는 교육 내용의 마련이 필요하다고 보고, 어휘 교육과 표현ㆍ이해 교육, 어휘 교육과 의식 교양, 어휘 교육과 문화 능력 함양, 어휘 교육과 국어적 사고력 함양 등으로 나누어 교육 내용을 제안해 보았다. 교수-학습 내용에 대한 이론적인 논의에 이어 어휘 교육의 실제를 살펴보았다. 우선 어휘 교육의 현실태로서 서울의 한 초등학교에서 이루어지는 어휘 교육의 모습을 긍정적인 관점에서 바라보고 부분적으로 보완할 사항에 대해서도 언급하였다. 다음으로 어휘 교육의 이상태로서 가상의 중학교를 설정하여 다양한 어휘 교육의 방안에 대해 논의하는 것으로 이 글을 마무리하였다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate theory and practice in Korean lexical education. The basic assumption of this study is that lexical education should be learner’s improvements of lexical competence. Learner’s improvements of lexical competence have something to do with improvements of theory and practice of lexical education. In chapter 2, we deal with the aims of teaching-learning in Korean lexical education. In chapter 3, we deals with the contents of teaching-learning in Korean lexical education. In chapter 4, we deal with aspects of lexical education in Korean education, especially the real condition of lexical education, the ideal condition and so on. To explain these issues, we give careful consideration to institution of curriculum, textbooks and so on. As a consequence, we comprehend deeply the theory and practice of lexical education in Korean education.
