“‘얼굴 없는’ 회화의 욕망은 도처에 있다”

The attempt to reinstate painting has been viewed as a possible or necessary measure, or anachronistic nostalgia. Sometimes it is thought to be the fresh desire for survival or, on the contrary, miserable sign of the end. Nevertheless, this essay addresses that there is no more paintings to live with or to become extinct. It is undeniable that the ‘painting’ is in the precipitous decline in terms of its traditional value and meaning. Actually, painting has been heavily damaged by the lack of the criteria for its success; too many ambiguous things are frequently evaluated pseudo ‘good painting’. It should be mentioned that many paintings come not to live up to our expectation. We are still showing our desire to believe in the value of painting. However, it is unfortunate that painting would not be valued in anything itself. We still want painting, but for the moment it remains in the absence of the identity where our language cannot reach.
