This paper discusses the beginning of visual culture and how the art transpires into the visual culture. By introducing a few young artists, this paper will elaborate on the transposition of the visual arts onto the Korean contemporary art. Note that the purpose of the writing is not to discuss the schematic difference between the art and visual culture, but to investigate the status of traditional values of the art and the avant-garde movement in visual arts and in result to value their roles in the art. Therefore, this paper performs the aesthetical judgments on some artists according to the social, technological and cultural elements such as the visualization and commercialization of daily human life, the multi-sensual communication, and the pros and cons of technology. In fact, the author’s assumption that the art soaks into the discourses of visual culture opens up a few issues to contemplate. First, it inspires one to academically transform the methodical approach to Art History. It also prompts one to revamp the tradition of ‘art writing’(centered on the description and interpretation of the visual art) going back to the distant Imagines of Philostratus. At the outset, one needs to understand that the modern art has begun to grow out of its role as the symbolic icon or metaphor of ocular-centrism. Then one should examine how the modern art uses the visual arts particularly in the environment of media culture. This helps one grapple with the dynamic self transformation of the art that is trying to unleash itself from the autonomy and fineness. Second, one needs to participate in the ventures of the artists to produce a meaningful structure where people can actively criticize the technological innovation of visual culture and the valuation of political aestheticisation. The artists of interest here in this paper make efforts to analyze the cases of societal traditions caused by the media in the system their own art. These efforts ensure that the old values continue to transpire into the new ones and that the art continually improves. That is, the art always ought to make its imagination and figurative resourcefulness available to those of visual culture and advance itself. Then the autogenous dialectic of the art would come alive.
