Being based upon Euclidean ideas, space has been understood as a continuous, homogeneous, and stable determinant of the cosmos. This belief entered into crisis in the modern times and, as a result, the notion of place was also suffered several severe modifications. Space was no longer perceived as an initial and a priori datum, instead it outcomes from architectonic conditions. In the Mid-Twentieth century, new architectural concepts, influenced by the psychological empiricism and existentialist philosophy, appeared and criticized traditional vision of space. As a result psychological empiricism replaced phenomenology which was albeit successful just at that time. Consequently the notion of place replaced that of space. And the place becomes an essential datum for the creation of architecture. With the concept of place and genius loci, architects occupy themselves in the creation of architectural environment which is expected to expel the phenomenon of human alienation. But, today, the idea of place or genius loci is no longer trustworthy. In the age of media, the place could not be any more considered solely as a three-dimensional physical environment. It is not only of the topography and historical memory but also of a virtual world which providing events in the chaotic megalopolis.
