A Review of Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index: Reliability and Validity of TTCI Model

The purposes of this study are to investigate the reliability and validity of the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index(TTCI) and to make suggestions for improving the TTCI. The reliability tests show that the Cronbach alpha coefficients of the T&T Regulatory Framework and T&T Business Environment and Infrastructure are relatively high. but the Cronbach alpha coefficient of the T&T Human, Cultural and Natural Resources is relatively low. The principal component factor analyses reveal that T&T Regulatory Framework, T&T Business Environment and Infrastructure and T&T Human, Cultural and Natural Resources have low convergent and discriminant validity. The overall results indicate that the TTCI has serious problems on the validity. Furthermore, the results of higher order factor analyses(using structural equation modeling) indicate that the fit indices of the TTCI model are low and suggest a bad fit to the data. Based on these findings, this study discusses some considerations to improve the TTCI.
