A Story of Unknown Time - Focusing on Duck-Hyun Cho’s Excavation Projects

Duck-Hyun Cho’s ‘excavation projects’ are based on imaginary scenarios which invite us to an ‘unknown’ time. By giving this unknown time the probable written records and physical evidences, Cho constructs another history in addition to the existing one. In the project, Cno tries to tell us that history should not be considered as an self-evident one. It is and could be reconstructed whenever it is needed as he shows in the scenario of 〈Entering the country of Yi Seo〉(2002). His denial of the meaning of the past could be read as an nihilistic expression. However, Duck-Hyun Cho does not just try to lill up the empty space as he wants with his imaginary scenarios. He tries to otter the viewers something different from this post-modern altitude. He demands that we should not believe the history as it seems so that we could understand it as a container of our lives.
